Far too much of my time is spent stitching small projects. On the one hand they feed my very serious need for closure. I can get them done in a, mostly, manageable chunk of time. Second, I get more variety this way.
On the other hand if I”m not stitching small projects, I’m creating, mostly small projects for the Web or for books in progress.
So what things do I wish I had time to stitch? Here are five I’m longing to do if I had tome, no deadlines & energy.
- Cat Clock by Mindy
I’m nuts for this clock. It has the wonderful curves of Art Nouveau and would look great in my house. I’d stitch it, but then would I get it finished? I hate not doing so, because it’s too pretty to hide away. - A Big Complex Charley Harper Canvas
I love Charley Harper and although there are many small canvases I have and am stitching, one dream is to do one of his big pieces, like this one of pets. I could make each animal have such personality. - The Brenda Sofft Creche Set
When The Needle Works premiered this set earlier this year, I fell in love with it. It’s lovely and very elegant. It would be such a centerpiece for my collection of nativities. But I can’t even finish the small ones I have, so this is on my dream needlepoint list. - The Seasons Panels
I envy any stitcher who has tackled this stunning piece from Art Needlepoint. There isn’t a thing about it I don’t love. It has wonderfully luminous colors, a clean modern design and hanging it would have such impact. Then again it’s over 50″ wide. That’s big even for a painting. - Maggie Folk Art Geometrics
The only thing on this list I’m likely actually to do are more of Maggie‘s canvases in this series. I’ve stitched two, one of which became a pillow. I have two in progress and one more in the stash. I’d buy every one I could find if I didn’t feel so guilty about the ones I have. - Mercantile
My husband’s grandparents owned a general store in a small Kansas town. When I saw this Little House design adapted by Ewe & Eye I thought of that. I’d change it to put their name on the front of the store but otherwise it’s perfect.Maybe someday.

That Maggie canvas had me drooling, except that I prefer counted not painted. Of course, that canvas would mean I wouldn’t have to count!!!

My dream project is to someday stitch an old Victorian dog chart that I have. It is a lovely design and I would love to see it stitched up with beads, it would be stunning. I can’t remember where I found the chart but have had it for over twenty years. The design is very intricate which would probably dictate that I’d only work on it in spurts. What am I waiting for? My excuse is that I would like the space to have the project out at all times so that I could just work on it for short periods of time.

Oh how can I thank you for the Art Needlepoint site. This is just what I’ve been looking for! Different, beautiful, classic, modern. Now to decide on one. Thank you so much!
