I am always intrigued by needlepoint canvases, like this one from Art Needlepoint, with lots of modern cool flowers. But I don’t stitch them because I’m paralyzed about how to make them fresh and interesting.
And there are tons of them out there.
I sometimes wish I was like Ruth Schmuff who is so creative with embellishments, but I’m not.
So imagine how delighted I was to come upon these great DIY Button Brooches from the blog Make My Day last week. Combine flat, simple buttons and twist tie wire to make a layered multi-color flower. To make it a brooch, you put a large safety pin in the back. But for needlepoint you could sew it on or add a couple of small safety pins.
To add it to your needlepoint, be sure to stitch around the edges of where it will be placed, so unstitched canvas won’t show under the flower.
They will be unique, inexpensive, and three-dimensional. Totally cool!
