The winner of the July Contest is Carmen whose favorite project has been a saying she made when she was a teenager.
The runners up were Tracy (set of teatowels), Shelly (pansies on pillowcases), Deanna (Father Christmas stocking), Betsy (sampler of her own design), Kim R (butterfly sampler).
August’s postings will have a theme which will show up in occasional posts. The theme is rugs (miniature ones count as well). In the comments, let me know if you have ever stitched a rug, whether you want to make one, and any tips you might have for stitching them.
Throughout the month I will be posting about my own rug stitching project, a rug from Art Needlepoint. Remember US addresses only for the contest.

Stitched a doll-house rug once and then made it into a small table topper (the small tables with glass tops). It was years ago, and I still have it. Always wished I had the ambition to stitch a larger rug as they are truly gorgeous.
The closest that I have come to making an actual rug is when I made a rug for a doll house room display. I was giving it as a gift to my mother, and I ran out of time, so the last couple of rows went across about 20 lines of canvas. I don’t think I want to stitch an actual rug, because it would take forever (and I would never finish it), and I would never be able to let people walk on it.
congrats lucky winners!
My rug adventure is of the serindipitous sort. Old needlework is not an especially prized commodity. So when I pass a thrift shop I put my head in and often find amazing things for my collection.
A year ago I found a rug canvas. At $2.49 I could not leave it behind. I’ve been to my LNS & found wool. My only issue is the outer border which is 1/5 done – too much to rip & so I’ll need to be creative. Someday I may even start to finish it. Mary
I have woven a couple of rugs, but not stitched them. I don’t think I would want to do one in needlework because of the time factor. I’m not getting any youger!

There are two rugs in the shop that I frequent that I wish to stitch. I plan to actually do them. Both are round and I do not know what size but would probably fit under a card table I am guessing. The first one I have to do. It has the most gorgeous purple, blue pansies around the edges with some greenery. The remainder of the rug is a white and when my cats are gone I plan to actually put them on the floor and sink by feet into them probably under my stitching chair. It probably is a fantasy but I have been looking at this rug and the other one for over two years and I love this and the second rug which is red and yellow tulips today as much as the first day I saw them. I NEED these canvas’ and I NEED to stitch them as they are so lovely. Pansies and tulips are my favorite flowers! I might even try the new theory of putting two threads together. What a great idea. These are terrific canvas’. I had thought of doing a dollhouse canvas but when I saw this pansy rug canvas I knew I was hooked!
I have never done a rug mainly because they seem too intimidating. But, I probably could be pushed to do one. Thanks for giving me a chance to be in your drawing.

I stitched the cutest little rug on a canvas called,”At the Lake” by Sandra Gilmore. Here is the website link so you can see it for yourself. You will see the rug at the very end of the newsletter…plus, it is great reading for needlepointers. My needlepoint instructor is a jewel… Robin King.

I just started needlework this summer, so a rug may be in the distant future for me…lots to learn!
hmmm, used to make rag rugs with gram and we would stitch them together, made a few oil cloth rugs but haven’t expanded out from there (oh of course the old time latch hook!) Have been expanding my needlepoint skills as of late … so who knows! smile
I made a stitched rug for a doll house when I was young and loved doing it. I can only imagine the since of accomplishment in doing a bigger one.
For rugs I’ve only ever stitched a mini one for a doll house. For adult sized ones I’ve tried latch hooking which was pretty time consuming but fun.
