What’s your Burning Needlepoint Question?

When I started doing needlepoint it was many years before I took a class. I learned from messing around and from reading books. Occasionally I would ask a question of a shopowner and most of the time got help. (We’ll just pass over the person who told me perle cotton was too fragile to use for needlepoint). But it does occur to me that this isn’t the best way to learn needlepoint. That motivation compelled me to write my popular email beginning needlepoint course, Right from the Beginning, and is once again compelling my new project a book version of the original class. The book will be available in printed and reader forms and will have lots more, including a reference section, a stitch library, projects, and a question and answer section. I’d like that section to be guided by your questions and to have it include your best needlepoint tips. Add either one, or both, into the comments section. Thanks to Kreinik I have a DVD to giveaway, Beyond the Page. It is designed for scrapbookers and covers their iron-on threads and other items that work in non-needlework contexts. Needlearts Survey – Help our Art

Needlepoint Design Contest from Gone Stitching and Planet Earth Fibers

Gone Stitching and Planet Earth Fibers have just announced their “Our World” needlepoint contest with over $1,000 in prizes. Entrants must design and stitch an original 6″ x 6″ needlepoint canvas based on the theme, “Our World.” There are two categories, Designer’s Choice and People’s Choice. Both will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes.

First prize is a ring of single ply or 6 ply Planet Earth fiber silk (retail value, $1,000). Second prize is a Gone Stitching original design canvas, knitted with Planet Earth Fibers (retail value, $200). Third prize is a small Gone Stitching original design canvas, knitted with Planet Earth Fibers (retail value, $100).

Three needlepoint designers will judge the designer’s choice, with Tony Minieri being one of the judges.

You can enter and find complete rules at Gone Stitching’s site.

Designs must use five Planet Earth threads from either their 6 ply or silk lines. It may be on 13, 14, or 18 mesh, which you specify when you enter. The entrance fee is $25 and is non-refundable. Once you enter the contest Planet Earth will send you our kit.

The contest ends June 3, 2010 and winners will be announced on September 6, 2010 on the GoneStitching podcast.

Ultrasuede Giveaway from Orna Willis

Orna has another giveaway on her site, running through December 22. It’s for six 3″x4″ pieces of Ultrasuede in different colors. That sounds small, but since Ultrasuede doesn’t ravel, you cut just what you need. These small pieces are perfect for finishing ornaments and other small items. Ultrasuede runs $54 per yard and it is really difficult to find small pieces like this, so this giveaway is great. To enter, go to Orna’s blog and leave a comment. Antique Needlework Display Contest
