Chaos & the Need for Needlepoint

Monday, July 28, 2008

At the moment I am living in what is complete chaos. We’re getting ready to put our house on the market and so we are fixing things up. There is not one room in my entire house, except the powder room and the upstairs bath which isn’t a disaster.

All three of my kids are hone at the moment, but all three will be leaving sometime in August. One is moving out, one is returning to college, and the third has to clean out her room after moving out three years ago.

So that’s the upstairs.

The master bath has painter stuff in the bathtub, which isn’t too bad.

The dining room, which normally just has my shipping supplies, now also has storage boxes, some partially filled boxes, storage box storage and some of the contents of my kitchen. The pantry is in boxes in the front hall (they redoing the kitchen floor this week). The family room has plastic from the on-going work on the ceiling along one wall, some of the furniture out of place, painting equipment (a fan & a shop vac), the kitchen table & chairs and my fridge). You can see the TV but only just. The kitchen is clean, really clean, but unusable for a week. The living room is nearly done, but they still have to do a final coat of paint on part of the wall and we have to find a ceiling paint, so the furniture is all in one corner.

The laundry room has the rest of the kitchen stuff, so all the clean laundry (four hampers( is in the master bedroom, and the only place I can fold it will be the bed, since there are now horizontal surfaces anywhere else.

I was so discouraged last night, I cried.

So what does this all have to do with needlepoint?

I have to stay out of the house today because they are sanding things. I was going to be a good girl and run errands and then work, but I think I’m going to put that stuff away (in the dent which has more overflow from kitchen and family room) and stitch on something.

Needlepoint is so soothing, it will put me in a happy place where things feel nice, are orderly, and look pretty.

God knows, order is what I need now.

  1. I remember thinking, after we fixed up one of our houses to sell to move to another, “Wow this is nice. Maybe we should stay.”

Believe me, I’m there. The floor looks so great, and this is just after anding, I can’t believe it.

    Keep Stitching,
