I would call myself a “good enough” stitcher. I’m rarely striving for perfection. One of the ways this comes out is in my feelings about thread grain. I can’t tell and rarely do I care.
In the hundreds of threads I’ve tried I have only found one, Silk & Ivory, where the direction of the thread made a difference. Even here it all looks the same to me, but one way wears better than the other.
So conversations about thread grain have mostly been ignored by me. It might be true, but it is outside my “good enough” philosophy.
Happily for us all, Mary Corbet is more questioning than I am. She’s taken a look at the whole thread grain question and written an in-depth article about it.
Now I can continue being “good enough.”
