Hi–I just started reading your blog, and am thoroughly enjoying it!

My favorite piece of needlepoint I’ve stitched is one I adapted from a counted cross stitch piece. It’s one of the Laurel Burch designs–Fantastic Felines I think–and features three brightly colored cats. The first time I saw this piece, my brain started swimming with ideas. I ended up using lots of dimensional stitches, fun threads (rayon, metallics, silk, etc), and even tried some real cat whiskers on it.

This was the first time I had ever changed a pattern so dramatically, and I was really pleased with the results. I entered it in the NAN exhibit, where it won first place in its category. You can see a picture of it and read my artist’s statement on the NAN website,

    Thanks for a great blog!

a great question – I have alot of projects but my favorite was done last summer. It started with three things – a piece of fabric from an old pillow project, some scrap thread and yarn and a needlepoint book I bought at the library book sale (from the 60′s). I used some old canvas I had saved and started in the middle, teaching myself different stitches using colors picked up from the fabric – colors of muted burgundy, dove grey and soft pink. I was on vacation in Maine and just kept working in a circle creating new stitches and matching colors. it was so fun and creative and totally my own. I made it into another pillow. I’ll try and get a picture and upload it.

It may sound hokey, but my favorite needlepont project was my first – stitching pansies on preprinted pillowcases. They came out very cute and, being my first project, it holds a special place in my memories.

My favorite stitching project is a celtic design on a padfolio cover. I use a picture of it for my Avatar.

I have to say that my first project that I truly love and have hanging in a shadow box is hand stitching a crazy guilt block. I just learned some stitches and started using beads and buttons for embellishments and it was so much fun and I finished it in just a few days. I love it cause I enjoyed doing it, I was able to start and finish in just a short amount of time…..
I love your blog just started reading it and I will be back. Good luck with your giveaway…

Among other things, I’ve cross-stitched a different Christmas stocking for each member of my family. My favorite stitching project is the first stocking I did, of Father Christmas, for my husband. No picture, but I’ll work on that.

when i was in high school i made a sampler for my mom. Very rustic but full of detail. I aged it slightly as well. SHe had just moved into a post and beam home that had been in the process of being built for years (we dug the foundation by hand) and i wanted a heartfelt housewarming gift for her, sorry no pic!!

My favorite was a piece that said “Tomorrow I plan to be more assertive … if it’s ok with you” I made it back when I was a teenager and it really applied to me back then.

My favorite thing that I’ve stitched was a set of tea towels for my grandmother when I was 12. My mom taught me to embroider over my summer vacation and I made the tea towels using a vintage design (one from my mom’s collection when she was a kid) for my grandmother’s birthday.

Whenever we get together at her house I wash the dishes and she brings out the towels and I dry!
