More New Products in Needlepoint – Late November 2009

Monday, November 30, 2009

Here’s the second half of the lovely new products just out for needlepoint. Remember that often manufacturer’s websites lag behind announcements, so the products I talk about may not be on the linked sites.

Canvas

Be still my heart! Zweigart has just come out with canvas in 35 over-dyed colors. This deluxe mono canvas is available in 10-12-13-14-16 and 18 mesh. Some of the colors include fuchsia, orange, light and dark olive, pink, lilac, violet, and several blues. It looks to be about 50% more than regular canvas.

I’ll be getting some to try and will tell you about it.

Painted Canvas

Several lines of hand painted canvas needlepoint have come out with great new designs.

One of my favorites, Dream House Ventures, has added to their vintage trade blanket series. The Pueblo blanket is mainly gray, red, white, and black. The Navajo Blanket is a geometric in bright colors and will fit into Sirling’s big tote. From Gail Hendrix also available from Dream House, is a wonderful complex paisley on 13 mesh. I’m itching to stitch that one right now. If you are looking for a smaller project, they have a series of chocolate “kisses,” one for every holiday.

My friend Leigh just keeps on coming up with stunners. In her Starlets line of eight designs, she has Rita, a redhead with a peacock feather in her hat. In the Fripperies collection, she has a vase in blue and white with two striking koi. It’s called Kutani. She also reminds us about her Dynasty series of rounds. There are 56 of them, arranged in collections and make wonderful coasters or ornaments.

Trubey Designs has a wonderful tree made up of ornaments on 18 mesh. There is also a new series of 12 new Christmas ornaments.
MAP Designs has two adorable (and not cutesy) birth samplers. One with a penguin and one with a chimp. Deux Amis Needlepoint has a set of six oval ornaments, showing the nativity in contemporary stained glass style.

Charts

From Nancy’s Needle has a set of two gingerbread houses in her small monthly quilts series. The chartpack includes buttons for embellishment. Laura Perin has a new entry in her floral collage series, a Magnolia. The piece is in greens, golds, and white.

If you like Blackwork, you’ll love the modern look of Stitchin’spiration’s Year of Blackwork series. This seasonal sampler is amazing on black linen and is stitched with silk thread.

Accessories & Finishing

Daylight has an interesting floor stand out. It’s metal and has a swivel top. It looks considerably lighter than other metal stands and the legs fold up for easy storage. There is a new LED light out from Reliable Corporation of Canada. Called the UberLight LED it has 28 LED’s and a honeycomb lens. It has a flexible shaft and comes in both table and clamp versions.

If you’ve been missing those stands for displaying your needlepoint kimono, search no more. These stands, based on traditional Japanese displays, come in two sizes and are available from a new company, Deborah Nader of RNE.

If you haven’t found at least one thing you want in these last two posts, you aren’t paying attention.
