Skin Tone Colors in Thread
My husband grew up being good friends with a family that has produced three gifted coemdians, the Meehans (see them in action on the Meehan Brothers’ site). One of their early routines was about Irish Tanning Heroes and has tons of jokes about being pasty white.
If you stitch needlepoint, you might think that thread companies all believe the world is entirely populated by these same tanning heroes. If you look for threads colors for anyone with slightly darker or more yellow skin, you seem to be out of luck.
I don’t stitch many people but I know I really struggled to find the right color for my husband’s Reggie Jackson ornament, pictured above before the face was stitched.
Happily for all of us, Carousel Charts, a cross stitch company, has put together a wonderful piece about selecting colors for skin tones. It’s a PDF so print it out and keep it handy for advice.
Thanks to Jane in Chilly Hollow for pointing this out.
