Like many people, I have a fascination for the Dollar Store. I love that it’s like a treasure hunt and I never know what I will find there. One of the things I seek whenever I go is things that will work for finishing my needlepoint.
The Dollar Store is a wonderful place to stock up on frames. All too often they are plastic, like this one used by Teresa for her charming finish. But often it provides the perfect touch of color. I stock up on frames, especially square ones when I visit. On my last trip there were lots of 2.5″ frames, like the one pictured here, that I’m using to frame some of my smaller pieces.
Another thing often found at dollar stores in commuter coffee mugs which can be personalized. If it can take a photo inside it, it probably can take thin needlepoint, or at the worst a copy of your needlepoint. Just be aware these mugs are not dishwasher safe and your threads might not be waterproof. I washed one I had made by hand and the colors ran.
There are plenty of blogs these days showing off clever things you can make with items from the dollar store. My favorite is Dollar Store Crafts (especially good if you have kids or grandkids). I find so many clever ideas there I can adapt to needlepoint. She also is great at finding posts using dollar store crafts from other bloggers.
With some imagination, this can be a great source of finishing material.
