    * I’ve been doing needlepoint about 10 years.
    * Advanced stitcher, I guess.
    * Any and all needlework – Crazy quilting, crewel, knitting, crochet, surface embroidery, brazilian, stumpwork, drawn thread, pulled fabric. I like counted thread work best, but I am happy as long as I have a needle of some sort in my hand (that’s why my blog is called Pins and Needles, LOL).
    * Dream needlepoint project? Something I design myself which shows off lots of the fabulous textured stitches.
    * Threads used most often? DMC floss ‘cos it can be difficult to get regular supplies of fancier threads here in NZ
    * Designs? I love curves, swirls and flowing shapes. Art Nouveau is my favourite art period. I also enjoy geometric designs, but I am not too keen on symmetry.
    * other forms of needlepoint I do? All. I have just finished a blackwork piece, and before that a “doodled” petit point piece; and I love bargello. You can get such beautful effects with just basic straight stitches.
    * I’ve never met a needlepoint book, teacher or designer I didn’t like! :)

How long have you been doing needlepoint?
Took my first needlepoint class in the 70s.

Do you consider yourself a beginning, intermediate or advanced stitcher?
I am an intermediate stitcher. I know stitches, compensation
but still stop in my tracks when facing a decorative canvas.
What stitches to use? What threads to choose?

Do you do other kinds of needlework?
I currently am also counted cross stitching on linen, working
    on silk gauze and quilting.

What kinds of needlework projects do you do most often?
Recently retired, I have pulled out my stash and want to
complete a few unfinished counted cross stitch designs and
    needlepoint canvases.

What is your dream needlework project?
Have a series of Oriental design pillow size canvases. Have
completed one. Want to do at least 6-8 more in the series.
They will look awesome on my sofa. Also have a design for a
white work-applique tea cozy. Bought the design in my 20s.
Came across it recently in my stash and still love it. It is
calling me to stitch it up. Recently bought all the supplies.

What kind of features would you like to see on this site?
Just keep on doing what you are doing. Your site is filled
with lots of information and motivation for us wayward
stitchers who need to keep stitching regularly. It might also
be good to have a running article addressing our unfinished
projects the same way you have done with our thread stashes.

What would you like to see less of?
Cannot think of anything I did not enjoy.

What type of thread do you use most often?
Paternayan Persian yarn for needlepoint. DMC on my
    counted cross stitch pieces.

What types of designs do you prefer?
For needlepoint, I love bargello, 4-way bargello, Oriental
rug designs, geometrics. In my counted cross stitch designs
I love nature scenes (squirrels, birds) or Colonial based
designs. Do not like the overly cute designs.

What other forms of needlepoint do you do?
Have embroidered since I was 6. I have done a bit of black
work, white work, crewel embroidery, pulled/drawn thread,
hardanger and applique. I am always thrilled if I can have an
opportunity to use these techniques in a piece of needlepoint.

What is (are) you favorite needlepoint books?
There are so many to list. My most dog eared reference books
are Canvas Work Encyclopedia by Jane Zimmerman and the
    Needlepoint Book by Jo Christensen.

Who is your favorite needlepoint designer?
Love the Oriental designs done ages ago by Beth
    Russell/Russell House Tapestries.

Who is your favorite needlepoint teacher?
Jane Zimmerman has to win, hands down. I took my first
needlepoint class from her and many more. She taught me not
just the basics such as thread tension, plies and compensation
but also gave me a passion for needlepointing. Actually, she has
been my only teacher but I was fortunate to have had the
opportunity to have learned needlepointing from her. Could not
have perfected my techniques as easily by just reading a book with
a canvas in front of me. An excellent teacher can make all the difference.

Can you use crochet thread for needlepoint? Iam aware that long strands will wear out. What if I use shorter pieces? These pillows are for my porch and I will wash the covers. I design my own pieces.

    Thanks

Yes, you can use crochet thread for needlepoint. Crochet cotton is similar to many cotton threads for embroidery and much cheaper. You will need to figure out what size will fit your canvas and use stitching lengths of about 18 inches.

    Keep Stitching,
    Janet
