When I got up yesterday morning, I faced a charming dilemma, I was Sunday, my day to stitch for myself. And I thought I’d get plenty of time to stitch.
So which should I choose?
Should I be “good” and work on the vintage In Good Company mini-sock I started before I moved?
Should I get some paper off my desk and work on the ANG Stitch of the Month kimono?
Or should I start Patt and Lee Designs’ Scrap Bag Star which arrived this week and which I pulled some threads for Thursday?
I opted for the mini-sock since it’s been languishing the longest. But events, in the form of lots of traffic and unpacking, kept me from stitching all day.
But what do you do, finish the old, work on the mystery or start a new project?

I had the same choice to make this weekend, and I chose the ANG Stitch of the Month Kimono. It worked quickly, I felt I had finished something, and it’s back in the closet waiting for May.

This is always the dilemma for me. I always want to start the new project rather than finish the old one. There is no better feeling then starting to work on a blank canvas!
To keep myself from always working on new pieces and never finishing any of the old ones, I try not to buy a new piece until I’ve finished my old one. Or, I buy it when I’m very close to finishing to give myself some incentive!
Assuming I had most of the day to stitch, I would start with at least an hour of something old. Then I’d move on to something new. Often though, by the time I get into the hour of something old, I’m more inclined to keep going on the old one. Today though, just taxes.
Your comments on this site have been an inspiration to me, Janet. My needlepoint and needlework projects are bagged, organized and neatly stored.
In the last few days, I have put in quite a few hours stitching on 2 of the 4 UFOs that are in my “to do” basket and I am proud of myself. I happily have seen quite a bit of progress and also enjoyed the relaxing time. Once three of the projects have been completed, I have promised myself that I will begin stitching on a gorgeous dragonfly needlepoint luggage tag that I recently bought. The threads and the colors are beautiful and also begin working on a pretty embroidery/applique tea cozy design that I have loved since my mid 20s (err… 45 years ago…lol).
Anyone out there want to roughly estimate how many partly completed UFOs they have and also break the list down by the reasons they are sitting around? Would not want to comment on how many projects, kits and canvases I have not even begun. This could be the start of a mini NA group… Needle workers Anonymous…
Happy stitching,
Marlene
