If you're just starting out, you may find the embroidery floss you find at fabric and craft stores frustrating. In order for it to look good, you will need to separate the plies and recombine them so they are smooth.

Depending on the canvas mesh size you are using, you may need to use fewer than the six plies in the full strand.

As a beginner, I would recommend using either Silk & Ivory from brown paper packages or pearl cotton. You may find a limited color selection of pearl cotton at chain craft and fabric stores. You will only find Silk & Ivory at needlework shops.

You can also get lots of information for beginners on my reference and information site, All about Needlepoint. The address is: http://www.aboutneedlepoint.com.

Keep Stitching,

Thanks for the information. I was searching for the right type of thread for a needlepoint project that I have yet to start but since I am a newbie to this art I asked the woman at JoAnn's which thread I should use for the 10 count canvas that I have.

She pointed me to the DMC which comes in a lot of colors. I have not started using it yet because something kept telling me that not quite right.

With the in formation that I am reading in you blog I will make a better decision on the thread to use.

Thanks
