Sometimes when you see a description of a class, it will say “Pre-stitching required.” It may even tell you how many hours of stitching time you will need.
Why do some classes have this? When you are in class, the teacher wants to make the best use of the time you have bought. That means they want to teach the parts that are new, more difficult, and/or more fun.
By asking you to pre-stitch, everyone in the class can get right down to the good part.
An example of this would be the grid in my Small Stitch Samplers (available here). Pre-stitching for this would be to stitch the grid. That way you can stitch this repetitive part at your own speed at home. With the grid stitch, everyone in the class can start filling squares instead of being bored while slower stitchers catch up.
