Last night I finished the violets case, about 11. I am so delighted with the result. Steve, my DH, who is so used to my doing needlepoint he rarely makes comments beyond “That’s nice.” really likes this one.
As I said yesterday, the stitches I used give it lots of texture, but there are a couple more things I want to point out. First, all the patches with white backgrounds are very lightly-stitched, small patterns. The neat thing about these is that here are four wonderful ideas for backgrounds or for small areas. I am always looking out for better ways to do texture when there is little space, these fit the bill.
Finally the deep violet patch in the upper right corner comes out as a blob because the color is so dark. That’s a shame because it doesn’t convey either how wonderful that violet is or how great the stitch looks. The thread is Splendor in a color called Midnight Purple. I used it for the border of Jubilee, my large sampler piece, and still love it. It’s the best, richest, most royal purple I’ve ever seen in thread.
The stitch is a triple version of Diagonal Willow, which creates a cool effect when stitched in a block. It looks like diagonal rows of parallelograms, separated by thin lines. A small pattern, it is an unusual effect because of the oblique lines.
The guide should be available sometime in August fron Whinsy & grace. If you are looking for stitcher’s accessories but don’t like this one, check out Whimsy’s site, there are several different themes. I have guides for winter, spring, autumn, old glory, williamsburg, roses are red, and apricot delight either finished or in process. They make great gifts!
Tomorrow I’ll post a bunch of stuff, an update of the baseball player (I’m doing the face and starting the hair today, an update on the diamonds (almost done with the colored ones), and a sneak peek at another stitch guide in process.
