I figured the big reveal of my improved and lovely studio would only work if you could see the temporary quarters. So I’m showing you everything, just as it was yesterday afternoon.
That’s my “desk” above. And yes, it is folding table with lots of stuff underneath. The bins have my color cards, the box more or less working documents. Being a table, there really isn’t much space for computer and printer and notebook, but I am managing.
It does make me wish I’d spent more and bought a flat screen.
I should also note the chair in the corner is a stitching chair and with the two windows it has great light. WIPs I’m currently working on are next to it and I have a Bargello footstool and my floor stand.
Next we see the main feature of the room, the chandelier and tower of boxes. This is supposed to be the formal dining room and so it has this large (4 feet tall) light fixture. I ran into it and bashed my head, so the tower was my family’s solution.
I ordered a ceiling fan to replace it and that has come in, so soon I will have floor space and then can think about replacing the ugly carpet.
Behind it you can see the bookcase and the top card catalog. I use it for thread storage. The bookshelf is the top part of the lovely desk, but I can’t work there. It’s out of range for the wireless router. And right now it has to be there because the doorway is too wide.
We’re closing up the doorway and the desk will go where the table it.
Here’s the other part of the desk with more thread storage in it.
Since I can’t use the desk as a desk I store projects and more thread under it. The straw tote has unstitched canvases.
Finally the last of the storage on an old sewing table. This is a seed cabinet which was my grandfather’s. Under it are bins with stretcher bars and canvas.
It’s a mess, I don’t have all my books and have no place to put them if I did. But strangely enough it works.
On my to do list:
- put in ceiling fan
- make doorway narrow
- paint walls
- put up book cases
- move desk
- add bulletin boards
- change carpet
I’ll keep you posted on the results.

Hi Janet,
Isn’t moving a mixed blessing? The challenge of all the upheaval and impermanence of it all can be stressful, but the inspiration of all that’s new and bright is revitalizing. It looks like you’ll have a lot of natural light coming in to keep your spirits up! Take care.

Janet M Perry says
I did, but it was replaced long ago.
Keep stitching,
