I suppose that since the government said so, it’s official, we’re in a recession.
Now politics and economics aside, you are probably noticing that your money isn’t going as far as it used to, even though gas has gotten back down to manageable levels, and you’re wondering how needlepoint fits in and why you should do it.
I read a blog post earlier this morning which said that people tend to say about businesses “the worst thing to cut is . . .” and then insert whatever they happen to sell.
and I suppose in writing this post, I’m not all that different. But . . .
You can do needlepoint without spending a ton. You can use your stash to make something special for the people you love. You can, and should, take the time to do needlepoint.
By doing needlepoint, you slow down, you work with you hands instead of your brain, you take some time to relax. I don’t know about you, but I find if I don’t take time to do needlepoint almost every day, even if it’s just for five minutes, I get nervous.
And that needlepoint doesn’t have to be expensive, you can make a canvas from your pile of canvases, you can use your stash of thread to stitch something, your can buy a self-finishing product to make a gift.
And keep in mind that that small hand-made gift can mean so much more than the latest trendy item. Make your niece or nephew, or your kids, an ornament. When they have kids of their own and put it on the tree, they will think of you and your love for them. That last longer than the newest Elmo doll, and is lots less expensive.

……… and don’t forget that all of us have a big stash of UFOs and already made up kits that we can work on when we don’t seem to be able to find the money for something new. That could be a good occasion to start working on those 🙂

Boy are you right on that one. I weeded out the pile and packed them away in the first packing rush this summer and still, not counting the canvases which don’t have threads with them, I have about 20 in the pile to do.
I think that;s a great idea and think I’ll do that by going and working on one of those things in just a little bit.
Keep stitching,
Janet

This is so true. I am a firm believer that stitching is vital to my mental health.
And I probably have enough UFOs to last a long long time.
