Thread Stash Credits — A Great Idea

September 4, 2009

I’m figuring your stash is not nearly as out of control as mine. If it isn’t, here’s a wonderful idea on how to figure out if your thread stash is getting bigger or smaller. Jane, of Chilly Hollow, talked about it in her blog last week.

Debi, from Temari Train, came up with a wonderful idea for figuring out how well she was doing in using up the stash: thread stash credits. Basically you give your self points for buying new thread and take away points for using thread from your stash. If you are a hockey fan,m it’s your thread Over/Under number. Unlike hockey though, the lower the number the better.

What a totally cool idea. If your number is growing, it’s time to do a stash project. If it’s getting smaller — good work.

My problem is that my stash is so huge, the number would always be negative, but I think the thread multiplies in the drawers when I’m out. I use tons of thread, but it never seems to make my stash smaller.

Oh well, I think I’ll go stitch something with the new threads I got last week.

    Laura…
The thought of a stash was so funny the first time I saw it mentioned…those were the days that I was just a needlepoint artist…painting away and never giving a thought to fibers or working a canvas….well about this time last year I started to stitch some of my squiggee canvases for models ….in one year, I have a biggggggggggggggggggggggg stash …. having stitched many models…and the fact that I have gone crazy for the new fibers…sparkle being the key here in Squiggeeland…the only positive aspect, is that I do not have a canvas stash…..no unworked projects just waiting for fibers…so this allows me to add to the fiber stash guilt free…..or at least i feel that it is a business expense…anything that is deductable always is a plus…funny…the more stash of fibers I have the more secure I feel…always on hand…in my case more is better…lol….
just my take on this very strange turn of events in my working life…

I can tell my stash keeps growing because it’s now taking over drawers that used to have other purposes. I still need those drawers for their other purposes. My threads are being selfish and greedy.

I can’t stop buying them. I only buy a few, but people or companies send more…or I give a class and have to buy a couple colors for the project…or, or, or. Also, they breed in the drawer. I’m convinced this is how I end up with all this variegated perle cotton in strange color combinations.

Considering how much stuff is flying out of my workshop on a regular basis, there is no reason my stash would be GROWING unless they are breeding.

I don’t have a problem. Please don’t schedule an intervention. I’d have to take a lint roller to my clothes before I left the house for the intervention, lest I embarrass myself with all the snipped ends of thread that seem to breed just as quickly.

I’m like the cat lady with thread instead of cats.
