Turning Quilt Patterns into Needlepoint

Like many needlepointers, I do love quilts. There geometric qualities can be so easily adapted to needlepoint stitches and you still have all that lovely freedom to pick colors and threads.

As a result, I find myself adapting quilt blocks and even entire quilts (like the one above) in needlepoint.

My friend, Jan Fitzpatrick, put up a post on her blog showing her method of adapting quilt patterns to needlepoint.

I love the way she has shown all the steps in the process. She begins with a typical quilt drawing. You find these often in quilting magazines and books. They use solid colored blocks instead of fabric, so that the construction of the blocks is clear (often the prints mask that).

From there she picks a section to reproduce, then goes on to talk about her thread and stitch choices.

Finally she shows the finished piece, which is just lovely. In addition, she has a second post, where she shows the design in two other color schemes, one using two closely related overdyes and one using a single overdye along with solid threads. Both very cool.
