The days after Christmas are often doldrums for needlepointers. You’ve gotten all your Christmas projects done. You didn’t get any needlepoint for Christmas, and you are too tired to start something new.
Why not look forward to the new year by planning some year-long projects. About.com has announced two. Here’s what they say about them.
The first series is the Flavor of the Month Club and is based on ice cream on a stick. At the beginning of each month, a pattern will be posted featuring a design based on the following month (so you’ll be working a month ahead). This series will start December 1st with the “flavor” for January. At the end of the year, you’ll have 12 nifty ice creams on sticks that can be displayed in a bucket. This will really be a fun series!
The second series is for a Stitch Journal that will launch at the beginning of January. Each week, a new downloadable binder page featuring a needlepoint stitch diagram, information on how it can be used, and an area for you to paste your own stitched sample will be posted to the site. We’ll start with basic stitches, then move into intermediate and advanced stitches.
Creating a Stitch Journal is a perfect way to practice or learn new stitches, and is nice to refer to later when you are planning your next needlepoint project. This series is perfect for beginners – but will also be useful to experienced needlepoint afficionados who may not yet have had an opportunity to try some of these stitches.
Sounds like fun!

I plan on doing the ice cream flavor of the month. I think that is a neat .com and she has some interesting news at that site. Thanks for bringing it to the attention of all your readers as many may not be familiar with it.

Only one has been published so far, and here’s the link: http://needlepoint.about.com/od/patternsbytype/ss/JanuaryIce.htm. I thiunk they are called “ice Cream on a Stick” and the patterns will be published at the beginning of the month.
